At the Neue Galerie, the Museumslandschaft Hessen Kassel is reconstructing the artist’s central contributions to the first three documenta exhibitions in 1955, 1959 and 1964 at the initiative of the Fritz Winter Foundation and the Bavarian State Painting Collections as part of the exhibition “Fritz Winter: documenta-Künstler der ersten Stunde” (Fritz Winter: A Documenta Artist From the Very Beginning).  

The exhibition at the Neue Galerie will feature around 90 works, including paintings, graphic art and tapestries. It draws on the extensive holdings of the Museumslandschaft Hessen Kassel and the Fritz Winter Foundation, which has been housed at the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen since its establishment in 1981. The exhibition is largely supported by the Fritz-Winter-Haus, Ahlen, which has provided important loans. The exhibition is generously supported by the Hessische Kulturstiftung and the Museumsverein Kassel e.V. 
With Fritz Winter, one can rediscover in Kassel a central protagonist of early documenta history - and a painter who has significantly expanded the language of non-objective art in Germany since the 1920s.
