Heide Warlamis: Selected works from the 1980s to the present daySouth Bohemian Gallery - International museum of ceramics, Novodvorská 301, 391 65 BechyněMarch 1, 2024 - September 1, 2024
In Heide Warlamis' work, and above all in her large-scale head sculptures, the process of transforming the real into the world of ideas takes place again and again. In her imaginary museum we encounter a synthesis of the art of all cultures of all times. Her cosmopolitan works, which transcend epochs, are a casually playful and yet well thought-out superimposition of the vocabulary of forms from the archive of human cultures. She loves the creatures of Greek mythology as much as African tribal art, the sculpture of early history as much as Brancusi, Giacometti or Moore. She constantly collects holographic images that radiate love and happiness and transforms them into visible, tangible sculptures of ideas full of sensual physical presence in her art. There they are: memorials to the dignity of all living things, condensed with her hands. The internationally renowned sculptor and designer Heide Warlamis lives and works in Austria. She is known worldwide in particular for her porcelain design program with the brand name 'Vienna Collection', which was produced in her own porcelain manufactory and presented worldwide. Together with her husband, the universal artist Makis Warlamis, who died in 2016, she founded the International Design Center Austria in Schrems in 1992 and the Waldviertel Art Museum with a large sculpture park, which is directly connected to the Design Center, in 2009.
