The well-known illustrator, creator of sewn and paper collages, comic book author, visual artist and performer Vendula Chalánková presents her latest work at GJJ. The exhibition is based around a cycle of paintings on the motifs of quatrains by Jan Skácel. They are complemented with compositions of painted tiles, Zen paintings that – among other things – personify the passage of time. The exhibition is opened and closed by descriptive canvases with a full-size door motif. This set is not based on plenitude. It is more about a spatially composed experiential visual situation than a regular showcase of the latest work. This can also make it exceptional. It is not literal. It works with an open tone. It can relate to melancholy, loneliness, vulnerability or a feeling of being threatened. Enough to mention that one of the doors on display leads to a children's hospital.
