The Worlds of Jindřich ChalupeckýPrague City Gallery - Municipal Library 2nd floor, Mariánské náměstí 98/1, Praha 1March 16, 2022 - June 19, 2022
This exhibition, presenting the life and work of the theoretician, critic, curator, and essayist Jindřich Chalupecký, expounds on the still-topical thought and legacy of this figure in Czech culture. The exhibition also aims to highlight the role that a theorist and curator can play in society – his unique ability to interconnect different personalities, places and areas of interest. Curatorial team: Through the line of his own thinking about the world, he delineates the place that art occupies in the contemporary world. The exhibition brings together works of more than sixty artists of several generations; from foreign artists such as Marcel Duchamp or Ilya Kabakov to works by Czech post-war artists such as Adriena Šimotová and Vladimír Boudník, and on to reflections by contemporary artists such as Anežka Hošková and Václav Magid. Through a dialogue of both historical works and the works by contemporary artists, writers, philosophers, and other notable figures, this project aims not to create a symbolic monument to Jindřich Chalupecký but rather to reflect on Chalupecký’s ideas and activities that are relevant to the present and can be of assistance to us in these artistically, politically, humanly, and environmentally difficult times. |
