No art today?Prague City Gallery - Municipal Library 2nd floor, Mariánské náměstí 98/1, Praha 1October 6, 2021 - January 30, 2022
The No Art Today? – New Acquisitions from the Collections of Prague City Gallery exhibition presents a selection of artworks purchased for the Prague City Gallery’s collections over the last three years – that is, since 2018, when the previous group exhibition of acquisitions took place. Curators: Sandra Baborovská, Magdalena Juříková, Jitka Hlaváčková, Jakub Král and Olga Malá Most of the exhibition will take place in the halls of the City Library, and will present a wide range of art tendencies from the 1960s to the present. In the first part of the exhibition space, motifs of mostly abstract form and text variations will unfold across all media. Through a challenging and varied series of audio-visual installations, the exhibition will lead the viewer into its next part, which will show, through figurative representations, generally more socially oriented themes of social aspects in art, physicality and gender. Experiences of leading Czech painters and sculptors, in their role as individuals in the context of their times. will be presented here on large-scale canvases and sculptural installations, along with a number of other artist commentaries on current topics. A compact group of works with a purely conceptual and performative focus from the collection’s volume of documentation of Czech action art from the 1970s to the present, complemented by similarly focused works from the Slovak neo-avant-garde, will be presented a few weeks later in the House of Photography. |
