Steven Holl: Making Architecture reveals Steven Holl’s intricate and distinctive process of making architecture through 17 recent projects, among them the campus redevelopment master plan for the Museum of Fine Arts. Other recent projects include the Kennedy Center expansion in Washington D.C. and the Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre in London.

The works in Making Architecture are organized into three sections: “Thinking,” “Building,” and “Reflecting.”

“Thinking” captures how watercolor drawings, small exploratory models, and material fragments lead to idea generation and form the foundation of each project. “Building” reveals the process of making architecture through models, sculpture, and in photographs taken during the actual construction process. “Reflecting” presents Holl’s ideas through a selection of digital films, his writings, and writings about him.

The pinnacle of the exhibition in Ostrava will be a presentation of the winning project of the new concert hall for Ostrava.

The Exhibition was prepared by the Steven Myron Holl Foundation and curated by Nina Stritzler-Levine

The exhibition was created in cooperation with City of Ostrava, janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, the Cabinet of Architecture and the Municipal Studio for Urban Planning and Architecture (MAPPA).

STEVEN HOLL (born 1947 in Bremerton, Washington) is principal and lead designer of Steven Holl Architects. Founded in 1977, the architecture and urban-design office works globally from two locations: New York City and Beijing. Holl specializes in integrating new projects into contexts with particular cultural and historic importance. Steven Holl has been recognized with architecture's most prestigious awards and prizes for example Praemium Imperiale (2014), AIA Gold Medal (2012), the RIBA 2010 Jencks Award and the first ever Arts Award of the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Awards (2009) and others.
