Vlastimil Elšík and Boris Jirků: Colours of friendsNew Town Hall - Gallery in TowerOctober 1, 2020 - December 13, 2020
The exhibition in the tower of the New Town Hall (Novoměstská radnice) is a story of two lifelong friends. It presents not just paintings full of emotions and knowledge, but also two distinctive views of the world around us. Academic artists Vlastimil Elšík and Boris Jirků have spent a substantial part of life together. They both studied at the High School of Applied Arts in Uherské Hradiště and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague; they both live and create in the Czech capital as well. A common feature of both artists in the field of free creative work is the specific focus on figure drawing, even though they access it from different angles. Vlastimil Elšík looks for inspiration in the nature or life stories, the paintings on display reflect water surfaces and create an abstract play of shapes. He draws figures in real proportions, and his painting flows in transitions of colour tones and lines. On contrary, Boris Jirků works with clear contours and perspective overstatement. The motifs of his paintings are both dream-like and critical to the surrounding reality, and he reveals his passion for the play of colours with great sensitivity. Namely the colours are used in his paintings to express intense emotions, and they enter into contact with the viewer. |
