Josef Šafařík’s project for the Liberec Regional Gallery is a site-specific installation based on the visual properties of the given space. The lighting conditions and its characteristic architectonic elements, both historical ones and those provided by the building‘s modern reconstruction, meet the requirements of a gallery space, which are: simplicity, neutrality of space and purity of expression. Therefore, the reaction to interior details (the floor, the glass ceiling, and the apse) become key, as the installation will be connected to them in form and content. The viewers’ presence will be a significant moment. Only with movement around the installation and thanks to the optical properties of the “object“ is an image put together and changed when viewed from different angles. The view from the gallery provides the visitor with an impression of the whole. The exhibition includes an installation by Adéla Bébarová which responds to the central story-line and also relates to the architecture of the gallery’s interior, while generating its own structure that reveals the character of the given space. David Sivý has prepared a video installation that respects all the mentioned criteria, again in reaction to the character of the place. Several times during the exhibition the project will be animated by video-mapping (for the first time on 19 March). |
