Gallery and Museum of the Diocese of Litoměřice AS A HOST of the Archdiocesan Museum in OlomoucMuseum of Art Olomouc — Olomouc Archdiocesan Museum, Václavské náměstí 811/4, OlomoucMay 25, 2020 - October 18, 2020
The exhibition is the first part of the project to introduce two exceptional institutions of its kind in the Czech Republic - the Gallery and Museum of the Diocese of Litoměřice and the Olomouc Archdiocesan Museum. Both museums focus mainly on spiritually oriented art and despite their different origins, the nature of their collections and the concept of permanent exhibitions, a number of parallels can also be found between them. Visitors to the Olomouc Archdiocesan Museum will be able to admire the selection of exhibits at the Olomouc Archdiocesan Museum in spring. The selection of treasures of the diocese of Litoměřice will include works of art from the 12th to the 19th century. The exhibits will include the head of the apostle of Žitenice (around 1180), the statue of Assumpty of Bystrice (around 1430), Baroque paintings by Petr Brandl and Anton Kern, and statues of Matěj Václav Jäckel and Matyáš Bernard Braun. From the collections of the bishops of Litoměřice we will show rare plates from the altar with St. Olaf (c. 1510) from the Cologne workshop of Bertheus Bruyn, saint of Stvolínek (c. 1480), or a painting by Jan Steen, Adoration of the Shepherds. Chapel from st. Štěpán in Litoměřice will be represented by the painting The Passion of Ten Thousand Knights from the first half of the 16th century or Madonna with a necklace by Lucas Cranach the Elder. |
