Although he had never engaged in reportages, the pictures he took during several dramatic days in August have become a symbol of the national tragedy and, more broadly, of any military oppression and fight for freedom. His series of photographs has entered the canon of classic post-war reportage photography. The exhibition and spatial video installation of Josef Koudelka and his work and the archival footage by film director Jan Němec are displayed on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the invasion; they are based on the eponymous book, which has been published in twelve languages.
