Alessandra Svatek a Artur Magrot: Ne/nahýbejte se z okenArbor Klamovka, park Klamovka, Prague 5October 17, 2017 - November 7, 2017
An opening of the exhibition on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, from 6 p. m. The exhibition will run until November 7, 2017 Curator: Lenka Sýkorová Alessandra Svatek and Artur Magrot have come a long way together. First toward each other, then away from each other and now somewhat toward each other again. The fact that their joint exhibition is named after the warning sign Don’t/Do Lean out of the Window placed in trains is no coincidence. It does not refer only to the typical metaphor of a life journey but especially to the ability to decide what one wants and is able to see and learn, with or without regard for his own safety. Their exhibition is thus mostly about perspective or perception. Their common theme is about exploring the limitations of perception as the basic principle of learning truth as well as about realizing the metamorphosis of things and relationships, depending on time, circumstances or perspective. Their artwork is similar in this respect, but focuses on different areas of interest and inconspicuously juxtaposes such antagonistic categories as concrete x abstract, near x far, instantaneous x topical, permanent x variable, immobile x mobile, partial x complete, shallow x deep, seeming x real, visible x hidden…. Through their objects, Alex and Artur create interactive model perspective-based situations that in particular demonstrate the im/possibility of having absolute knowledge of things or relationships, which we all face on a daily basis…. Radek Wohlmuth Alessandra Svatek and Artur Magrot initiated the experimental project Ukradená Galerie (UKG) (Stolen Gallery) in May 2010 in Český Krumlov, by placing their artwork in a vacant showcase. UKG represents one of the current street art actions of nonstop galleries that are permanently open in a public space. The idea to exhibit artworks in a public space started already in 1997 when Tomáš Vaněk and the art group Bezhlavý jezdec initiated a showcase exhibition project in Komunardů Street in Prague-Holešovice. PAS – produkce aktivit společnosti founded in 2000 by Tomáš Vaněk, Jiří Skála and Vít Havránek continued with this project. Approximately 30 alternative exhibition sites permanently open in a public space have been created since 2006 - e.g. 36 in Olomouc, Galerie Potraviny (Grocery Gallery) and Galerie Umakart (Formica Gallery) in Brno, Galerie Kaluž (Splash Gallery) in Ostrava. UKG is unique mostly in terms of its stamina and weekly exhibitions. Lenka Sýkorová |
