Agostino Carracci and VeniceNational Gallery Prague - Schwarzenberg Palace, Hradčanské náměstí 1, Praha 1February 20, 2024 - June 2, 2024
An important stage in the artistic career of Agostino Carracci was associated with Venice, a city he visited several times in the 1580s. In his engravings executed in the early eighties after paintings by Paolo Veronese and Jacopo Tintoretto, his skill as printmaker reached full maturity. Of no less importance was his trip to Venice in 1588 that inspired the creation of engravings which are considered among the best in Agostino’s graphic art. The Graphic Arts Cabinet’s exhibition Agostino Carracci and Venice will present to visitors of the National Gallery this corpus of prints which, although small in quantity, is artistically hugely captivating.
